Text in Pinuyo 1.13.1 (i.e. slightly outdated).
1. Now the whole earth had one language, and spoke one thing. |
2. And when they journeyed from the east, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. |
3a. They said to themselves: "Come! Let us make bricks, and bake them thoroughly." |
3b. And they used bricks for stone, and tar for mortar. |
4. And they said: "Come! Let us build ourselves a city, and a tower, whose top reaches into the sky. And let us obtain glory for ourselves, so that we will not be scattered over the face of the entire earth. |
5. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men were building. |
6. And the LORD said: "Behold, this is one people, and they all have one language. This is the beginning of their deeds. From now on, what they intend to do will not be prevented." |
7. "Come, let us go down there, and confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another's language." |
8. And the LORD scattered them from there over the surface of the entire earth. And they ceased building the city. |
9. Therefore it was named Babel; because [there] the LORD confused the language of the entire earth and scattered them from there over the surface of the entire earth. |
